It predicted that the referee would grade version 3 B (“flawed but salvageable”) with medium confidence, that the weakest link it named would be “the framework does no work”, that no numerical indictment would survive, and that all 23 citations would resolve. The referee graded the manuscript C. The adjudication scored the verdict a miss, the first after two hits; the weakest link a miss on the referee’s first choice and a hit on its second; the arithmetic a miss; and the citations a hit. The commit that recorded the forecast also stated it in its subject line, which the referee’s environment displayed, so the round was less blind than intended, and forecasts have been kept out of commit subjects since.

Round-3 verdict, rulings and citation audit

The round-3 verdict and rulings are the outcome of the third blind review of #14, the manuscript proposing that dark matter consists of superheavy magnetic monopoles of a hidden gauge sector: the referee’s grade and findings, and the adjudicator’s ruling on each finding. The referee graded version 3 C, fundamentally flawed, with medium confidence. The predicted monopole mass rested on a count of monopoles formed in the early universe that was normalized too low, by a factor of about 4.6×10³, and every number derived from that mass carried the error. The adjudicator agreed for v3 as written. Of the thirteen numbered findings it upheld most, accepted others, some without re-checking them, and overturned one, the claim that a cited paper lacked the operator it was cited for. The audit also found every one of #14’s 23 references real, identified the manuscript’s one theorem as a known result of Born geometry, and listed constraints the manuscript had not evaluated, which the adjudication accepted as a to-do.

Round-3 decisions and lessons

The round-3 decisions are the four choices that set the Broken-Born program’s course after its third blind review failed the soliton dark-matter manuscript, recorded at the end of
review/round3-adjudication.md
together with the round’s two lessons. Paul delegated the decisions on 2026-10-19, Claude made them, and Paul keeps the veto. Decision 1 took at face value the postulate that gauge forces do not cross between the two polarizations of matter, so that the hidden and visible photons mix no more than gravity makes them. Decision 2 retired the soliton candidate rather than keep it alive with a free dilution factor or claim a published model as the program’s own. Decision 3 dropped a queued calculation whose premise the review had inverted, and Decision 4 made the toy Lagrangian the next task, after a cleanup of the checkpoint. The lessons were to keep a review’s forecast out of the commit subject, and to check numbers against anchors that do not come from the paper being checked.

Round-3 arbitration and the referee's constants

The round-3 arbitration is the adjudicator’s own recomputation of the central numbers the referee disputed, run before ruling on them: a short script,
review/round3/adjudicator/round3_arb.py
, that rebuilds the Kibble normalization from the expansion rate of the radiation-dominated universe, finds the monopole mass at which the abundance matches the dark matter, and recounts the relic density of the light hidden fermion ψ. It confirmed the referee’s central finding: one monopole per Hubble volume gives p = 104.31, where v3 had used 0.0228, so the mass that closes the abundance falls to 2.9–4.4×10¹² GeV and v3’s benchmark of 3×10¹³ GeV is overproduced. The referee had done the same work independently, taking every physical constant from outside sources, chiefly the Particle Data Group’s 2024 review and Planck 2018, rather than from the manuscript. The two calculations agree on the Kibble numbers and, on ψ, “to within ×1.6”, and the adjudicator’s numbers were carried into the gate.
